For Yvette Thomas, nursing is more than just a job. She is an active part of the nursing community. She touches the lives of her colleagues by helping those around her rise to the challenges that nursing presents. Her compassion for her patients flows into her leadership role with New Jersey Nursing Students Association. When asked her goals for the organization, she said: "To bring out the leadership skills in our board. Bringing out their leadership skills only enhances the smaller goals that we set."
Each day she keeps focused on why she is pursuing the healthcare field. "I do it because I love it. However, I don't do it for myself, I do it for the patients," said Thomas.
Thomas also served in the U.S. Army before becoming a nursing student. When she was contemplating a second career she realized that healthcare was her field.
Thomas recently graduated from the Helene Fund School of Nursing in Blackwood, N.J. She will start her full-time nursing profession at the Cooper University Hospital in Camden, N.J.
