Name: Regina Murphy
Profession: RN
RN Regina Murphy not only touches lives, she also saves them. Recently, Murphy made the decision to donate marrow through the National Marrow Donor Program, an organization which has facilitated more than 20,000 marrow and blood cell transplants. What makes her exceptionally special is the tiny life that she saved by volunteering.
Toddler, Ketavious Johnson had spent most of his life in a hospital diagnosed with a rare ailment that weakens the immune system. This form of leukemia is normally fatal within a year without a marrow transplant. Nina Johnson, Ketavious's mother, was convinced that she was going to lose her son until Murphy selflessly donated marrow. "I found not only a donor for my son, but also a friend for life," said Johnson. "It's like she is a part of me now."
